NRCan & CTA Team-up To Learn How and Why Carriers
Select Tires
Results of 10 minute survey could lead to
development of commercial tire labeling program
Improved tire technology has been identified by the carrier community
and government as a great opportunity to improve the fuel efficiency of
commercial trucks and thereby reduce the sector’s carbon
footprint. Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is trying to learn more
about why and how carriers purchase tires for their equipment. NRCan
will use the knowledge gained in the survey to explore the possibility
of developing a fuel efficiency tire labeling program.
The survey itself should take no more than 10 minutes and asks
carriers:
- How and where they purchase their tires
- Most important features you look for in a tire for both tractors and
trailers
- Issues around retreaded tires
- How you manage the purchasing and maintenance of tires
- Experiences with single and fuel efficient tires
- Awareness of SmartWay and other labeling programs
- Preferred communication method with the industry
“This is an important opportunity for the industry to educate
government on our sector,” said CTA CEO David Bradley. “The
creation of a tire labeling program, in and of itself, is helpful to the
industry but it would also be beneficial to the possible introduction of
a rebate system based on this labeling program,” added
Bradley.
Carriers participating in this survey can be assured of anonymity as
all results will be reported to the government in aggregate form. CTA
would like to strongly encourage carriers to take 10 minutes out of
their busy schedules to complete this online survey by the closing date
of March 31, 2010. Links to the English and French versions of the
survey are included below.
